Riverfront Park Amphitheater Announces Name, Eric Church Show and More

From Nashville Scene

Ever since Mayor Karl Dean announced plans to open an amphitheater in Riverfront Park, we've all been standing by, waiting to hear what the joint would be named. We already heard that Steely Dan and Elvis Costello will be playing there, as well as Phish. That's all well and good, but what's the damn place called? Today, we have our answer.

Ascend Amphitheater. The venue will be named for Tennessee's own Ascend Federal Credit Union.

Also announced today at a press conference — from which our man on the street, music editor Adam Gold, is currently live-tweeting right here — was Ascend's opening show: Eric Church on July 30. Other artists announced to play the venue include Chicago with Earth, Wind & Fire, Smashing Pumpkins with Marilyn Manson (what!), ZZ Top and Blackberry Smoke, Hall and Oates, Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick, Old Crow Medicine Show, Widespread Panic (two nights), Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals with Lake Street Dive, and many more. Click on through to the other side of the jump to see a calendar featuring of Ascend Amphitheater's upcoming shows and on-sale dates, and stay tuned for further deets.
